What We Know
H. Moser is revamping its take on a stainless-steel integrated bracelet watch by announcing a one-year limited edition Streamliner Center Seconds with a new "Smoked Salmon" fumé dial. With a vertically-striped griffé finish only found on other limited edition dials, the brand promises a dial that plays with light and shifts from light brown to black with a mirror effect.
The Streamliner case remains the same, inspired by 1920s and 1930s high-speed trains, with no lugs on the case and an integrated steel bracelet. The case middle has hollowed sides with satin-finishing and alternating brushed and polished surfaces. That contrasting finish continues to the bracelet where the articulated links combine a vertical brushed finish with polished surfaces. The dial-side sapphire is domed, while the rear has a see-through caseback to see the HMC 200 calibre movement with Moser's double striped finishing, solid gold oscillating weight powering a minimum three-day power reserve.
The special edition will be available only for one year and costs $21,900.
What We Think
First H. Moser owner Bertrand Meylan teased the goodbye of the "green dragon" center seconds model that has been the mainstay Streamliner for the brand. Then his brother, the brand's CEO Edouard Meylan posted some fishing flies on his Instagram. The two brothers, and the brand as well, certainly know how to tease a release and have fun with it. And while I'd call the newest color of "smoked salmon" Streamliner a bit more serious and reserved than the bright green dial of the past, it's a nice change of pace.
The Streamliner is one of my favorite-wearing watches and one that you don't see in the wild too often. At first blush, I like the choice to lean into the brown end of the spectrum with the emphasis on smoked salmon dial but I'm curious if the griffé finish might look a bit too much "wood grain." But I've never really doubted Moser's taste in dials – one of their obvious strengths – so I imagine I'll have to see it in person to fully appreciate the play of light and color.
