The always-bold Roger Dubuis has announced its newest watch and it's a partnership with racing tire maker Pirelli. The two brands have teamed up to create the new and blue Excalibur Spider Pirelli with double flying tourbillon in a limited series of just eight pieces. In addition to this colorful and unusual timepiece, Roger Dubuis has confirmed that it will be releasing new watches exclusive from the Excalibur collection through 2019. So, what is so special about the limited edition Excalibur Spider Pirelli? Let's take a look.
If you are familiar with Roger Dubuis at all, you are definitely already familiar with the Excalibur collection. It is considered the bread-and-butter collection for Roger Dubuis, and the manufacture continue to use new interesting (or, in their words, "disruptive") materials to create new models. The Excalibur Spider Pirelli is one of these watches. First of all though, a little bit about Pirelli. Founded in 1872 in Milan, Pirelli is a high-end tire maker that is the exclusive supplier of tires for Formula One.

You are probably wondering what these two companies have in common. Not a lot, if we're being honest, except for the fact that Roger Dubuis has always been into unusual materials, and for this particular limited edition watch, RD created straps with inlays made of rubber from Pirelli tires used in actual races.
The watch itself has a double flying tourbillon with the carriages placed side by side within a highly skeletonized movement (the caliber RD105SQ to be exact), which is made of 365 parts. The tourbillons both act as sub-seconds regsiters and are surrounded by seconds tracks that are inspired by speedometers. Fittingly, the power reserve is inspired by racing car fuel gauges.
The case measures 47mm and is made of black DLC-coated titanium with blue rubber accents (blue is the official Pirelli color). The retail price of this watch is 280,000 CHF (approximately $277,750 at the time of publication).
This will be a limited edition of eight pieces, and, as a bonus, owners will receive an invitation to a two-day VIP motorsports event as guests of Pirelli.
