Welcome to another installment of "My Watch Story," a video series starring HODINKEE readers and their most prized watches. The submissions continue to stream in, and we couldn't be happier to share them with the watch community. Today, we have five new stories submitted by Jason Chu, Nicholas Puleo, Jon Bruno, Matthew Lopez, and Darrin Guitreau.
Feeling inspired, or just discovering this project? Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to learn how to submit your own video. But first, we hope you enjoy this installment of My Watch Story.
Jason Chu And His Rolex Air-King With Domino's Dial
Jason, from Seattle, WA, is the owner of a Rolex Air-King that was given to Domino's franchisees upon meeting sales goals. This particular watch originally belonged to a franchisee in California in the late 1990s, and is engraved with his initials. A self-described "economic casualty" of COVID-19, Jason sees it as a memento of someone's professional success – and got it for good luck, wearing it during phone screenings as he went through the process of interviewing for new jobs.
Nicholas Puleo And His Girard-Perregaux F300 Ferrari Chronograph
When Nicholas was a kid, his uncle had a Ferrari, and this Girard-Perregaux F300 Ferrari Chronograph – both of which Nicholas thought were pretty cool. That uncle promised him the watch one day, but actually gave it to Nicholas's brother, along with another watch. Nicholas did eventually end up with the GP, and wears it often – and hopes to wear it while driving a Ferrari one day.
Jon Bruno And His 1950s Eberhard Extra-Fort Chronograph
Jon, from New York City, owns the Eberhard Extra-Fort Chronograph that belonged to his grandfather, who purchased it on a trip to Italy in the 1950s. His grandfather passed away before he was born, but his grandmother kept it in her jewelry case – and in 2014, Jon's mother found the watch and asked him if he was interested in it. Today, it's the favorite watch in his collection, and a tangible way to connect with his grandfather.
Matthew Lopez And His Croton Nivada Grenchen
Matthew, who is from Manila, the Philippines, owns his grandfather's Masonic-dial Croton Nivada Grenchen, which was given to his grandfather when he entered the Masonic order. For Matthew, it's the favorite piece in his grandfather's collection, which, as the watch enthusiast in his family, he was more than happy to inherit.
Darrin Guitreau And His Tudor Black Bay GMT
Darrin is a health care provider in Colorado who, in his downtime, monitors HODINKEE to keep up with the watch world. When the Black Bay GMT was announced two years ago, he knew it was the next watch for him. He first saw it in the metal on what he describes as a "perfect" trip to New York City with his wife – and was a proud owner a week later. Darrin also names all of his watches – and this one has a monicker that relates directly to its GMT function.
Ready To Submit Your Own Watch Story? Here's How It Works
1. Pick one watch that is very special to you, and get your camera phone ready.
2. Record a video telling us your most interesting or meaningful story about your watch. Let's say 2-3 minutes is the sweet spot – if you go longer, that's okay. (And please remember to introduce yourself: your name and where you are from.)
3. Get creative, keep it clean, and have fun!
4. Take some photos on the wrist and a few shots of the watch so that we can proudly display them on our site. Horizontal, please.
5. To share your video and photos, you can either A) upload here; or B) upload to your preferred large file transfer service and send a link to mywatchstory@hodinkee.com.
