From the 39mm case size to the fully reconfigured crystal and internal bezel design — this proved more than just a product refresh and instead something more akin to an ideological one by the brand. Thankfully, there is still a demographic of sporty AP enthusiasts who like to flex in an early 00s way. This salmon dial Self Winding Chronograph comes complete with a brilliant cut diamond bezel. The magic of the Audemars Piguet Offshore is when it combines materials like rubber and diamonds all on one model. It's playful and youthful and so much less serious than watch collecting ever needs to be. This particular Offshore feels robust yet refined. It's fun but also a little more grown-up than expected. Until June, the Rolex \"Le Mans\" was the Double Swiss Underline ref. 6239. But this isn't that watch. It's not even a steel Daytona. It's something entirely different.
\n\n
Steel Daytonas are fine, but the weird rings on the subdials created a visually busy watch. Now, there's a white gold version that's far and away better, with a white gold bracelet, full, bright white subdials contrasting against the black sunburst dial, a ceramic bezel with red \"100\" marker, and a white gold border for more contrast, and display caseback – don't let anyone tell you Rolex's finishing is bad enough to be worth hiding. But the thing that I love about it is that, with the lollipop subdial indicators reminiscent of a Paul Newman Daytona, it shows that Rolex can still acknowledge the fans and their own history without making an homage.
\n\n
The inaccessibility that has come with the demand for vintage Rolex can sometimes make you feel like Rolex is this giant, unfeeling, unaware company. The new Le Mans Daytona will certainly still be nearly impossible to get, but it's a perfect nod from Rolex to say, \"Yeah, we know what you like – we like it too.\"
\n\n
–Mark Kauzlarich, Editor + Photographer
","dropcap":false},"type":"Block::BodyCopy"},{"data":{"size":"h3","headline":"Tudor Black Bay 54 – Tony Traina"},"type":"Block::Headline"},{"data":{"copy":"
As if the Black Bay 58 wasn't good enough, Tudor went and introduced the <a href=https://www.hodinkee.com/"https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-tudor-black-bay-54-doesnt-waste-a-millimeter/" target=\"_blank\">37mm Black Bay 54 this year. While I suppose we could argue the need for such a system, I think that might be out of scope for such a watch. For engagement (both literal and emotional), I kinda dig the idea of having the ability to shut off the automatic winding on my watch. In modern, high-performance cars, programmable modes (like sport mode) have become a major feature set, so I also get the connection to the lifestyle and experiences of the people who are in the market for a quarter-of-a-million-dollar Richard Mille. The dial is wrapped by a black tachymeter scale with orange accents, and the base dial offers a gradient blue-tone finish that is achieved through the use of more than 30 layers of varnish. The end result fades from a bright blue to a near black and feels like a rather dressy format for a sporty steel chronograph. In the metal, I was reminded of some of the funky, colorful Sixties chronographs from Glashutte Original, but the Polaris feels much more modern and reserved. Blame Hublot, or the OysterFlex, or Omega, Breitling, or Panerai – but I dig it. You can search the entire history by reference number, model, brand, or even more specific elements like case material and width. If you're a data nerd, love the world of watch auctions, or might simply see your watches as a sort of investment, it's a compelling platform. And, should a watch you're hunting become available, you can be directly connected with the offer, be it on a marketplace like Chrono24 or part of the catalog for an upcoming auction.
","dropcap":false},"type":"Block::BodyCopy"},{"data":{"size":"large","images":["46d07d74-8097-47a6-82bc-0edb7ddfa1cf"]},"type":"Block::InlineImageContainer"},{"data":{"copy":"
If, like me, you might want more of a macro-level view of the wider world of watches, the tool can also zoom out and trade specific series and references for a data-based view of an entire brand's performance. At $50 per month for the premium tier with all of the tools and data, it feels like a no-brainer for anyone who plans to interact with the auction platforms and would like to do so with data on their side. For example, at this time, the pricing data is derived from the auction world (on lots that exceed $300) and while that is a huge wealth of information, it's information that comes from only one methodology of buying/selling watches. So, while Everywatch can help you find and connect with watches that are offered by many non-auction marketplaces, the pricing data is not born of those environments.
","dropcap":false},"type":"Block::BodyCopy"},{"data":{"copy":"
Nevertheless, I think there is a wide swath of the watch world that could find ways (both apparent and otherwise) to leverage that data to form a more complete perspective on watches, specifically at the auction level.
